Living in a student residence is an ideal option for those who are pursuing official studies and are looking for a safe, comfortable environment designed for university life. In general, undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, Erasmus and vocational training students can live in student residences.

In this guide, you will find all the requirements for living in a student residence, who can access it, what exceptions exist, and what advantages this type of accommodation offers compared to a shared flat.

Reasons to live in a student residence in Barcelona

Living in a student residence in Barcelona allows you to enjoy centrally located, well-connected accommodation designed to make university life easier. In a city with a high cost of living, university residences offer a comfortable and affordable alternative, with included services and a safe environment for studying and living together.

The Unihabit Barcelona Ciutat Vella university residence is located in Plaça de les Caramelles, right next to the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA), and just a few minutes from Plaça Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia, the University of Barcelona (UB) and Blanquerna (URL), as well as the bustling neighbourhoods of El Born and the Barri Gòtic. This location provides easy access to the main study, cultural and leisure areas of the city.

In addition, the Ciutat Vella residence has excellent connections with metro lines L1, L2 and L3, as well as train and bus stations, making daily travel to any point in Barcelona easy.

Single or shared room, which is the best option?

At the Barcelona University Residence, we offer different types of rooms to suit the needs of every student: single, double and triple rooms. Each option allows you to live in a student residence according to your lifestyle and the experience you are looking for during the academic year.

Single room

The single room is the ideal option if you want to live alone and enjoy the peace and quiet that this entails. One of the great advantages is that you will have your own personal space, which you can decorate and arrange as you like, and also, during exam periods, or whenever you need it, you will have a refuge that gives you absolute concentration without the need to go to the library or study room.

Double or triple room

On the other hand, if what you are looking for is to live with companions with whom you can share unique moments, our double or triple rooms offer you the opportunity to have a companion or two. With them you will create an inseparable bond and share all your experiences and memories of this special stage: true and loyal friendships that will accompany you in any situation, both in good times and in the most difficult ones.

All options are designed to offer comfort and an environment suitable for studying and living together during your time as student in Barcelona.

Advantages of living in a student residence vs. in a shared flat

Choosing between a student residence or a shared flat is one of the first major decisions when starting university. Although both options have benefits, living in a university residence offers a much more complete experience, especially for those looking for comfort, security and a good environment for studying and making new friends.

Here are the main advantages of living in a student residence compared to a shared flat:

1.Private spaces with all the comforts

All our student residences in Barcelona have rooms with multifunctional spaces that include a kitchen, study area and full bathroom. They also have heating and air conditioning to ensure your comfort throughout the year.

2.Activities and services in one place

Without leaving the building, you can access a wide variety of indoor and outdoor spaces where you can study, relax or enjoy group activities. This convenience is one of the major differences compared to a shared flat, where common areas are usually limited to the living room or kitchen.

3.Fully equipped facilities

The kitchen has a fridge, microwave with grill and basic cooking utensils. The bathrooms have a shower, sink, toilet, mirror, toilet roll holder and towel racks. And the bedroom is furnished with a bed, wardrobe, desk with drawers and a chair. Everything is ready for you to move in without extra expenses or last-minute purchases.

4.Guaranteed security and peace of mind

Unihabit residences offer a safe environment thanks to video surveillance systems and a team that works every day to ensure residents’ wellbeing. This is a major advantage over shared flats, where safety depends on the property and the roommates.

5.Social life and opportunities to meet people

Student residences have a very active social environment. You can meet people from different cities and countries both day-to-day in the common areas and at the organised activities. This makes it easy to build lasting friendships and a network of contacts throughout your university life.

6.Activities and leisure for every taste

In our residences, we organise activities to promote coexistence: Christmas dinners, cooking workshops, yoga classes, gymkhanas, trips to Port Aventura, sports days, skiing trips, calçotadas, escape rooms, welcome parties, beach days and many more.

7.Personalised attention and support

You will find a team always available to help you with any question or situation related to living together. This continuous support provides peace of mind that is hard to find in a shared flat.
